When a couple moved into their new Victorian home, they planned to live in it for a while before starting the renovation.
This gave them time to settle in and figure out how to best use the space. Their goal was to restore the house and then sell it for a profit. However, they were surprised when, shortly after moving in, they discovered a secret room full of forgotten treasures.
One Reddit user shared his story: “My dad’s cousin and her husband bought an old Victorian house about 15 years ago with plans to renovate, restore, and sell it. They had been living in it for about a month when they were standing outside just staring and having that ‘I can’t believe what we’ve gotten ourselves into’ feeling when they noticed something strange.
“On the second floor, they recognized their bedroom window and their daughter’s bedroom window by the curtains they had hung, but there was a window in between.” When they went back inside to investigate, they found no door leading to this mysterious room, confirming their suspicions that it was hidden.
Describing the eerie discovery, the user added: “They went back outside, placed a ladder against the mysterious window and opened it from the outside. On the other side of the window was another bedroom, crammed with fur coats, artwork, jewelry and other belongings.”
“There was also a normal bedroom door. They opened it and found that the door was boarded up and plastered on the outside, so that you would not have noticed it when walking down the hall (…) Their daughter was about my age and I saw her walking to school in fur coats from time to time.”
In a comment on the post, one user attempted to theorize why someone would seal off a perfectly intact bedroom, wondering if the daughter had died and he couldn’t bear to walk past her room.
They said, “Tell us about the jewelry! And the other ghosts that were in there. And the person who might have lived there before.” Another user said, “There must be so many ghosts.”
