Spencer teen gets bedroom makeover from A Room to Heal

SPENCER, NY (WBNG) — A Room To Heal has begun its next bedroom renovation project, this time in the town of Spencer.

The nonprofit organization is known for renovating bedrooms for seriously ill children.

Fifteen-year-old Kylie Chrysler was diagnosed with Titin Syndrome several years ago. This disease prevents the muscles in her body from functioning properly. The goal of A Room To Heal is to create a space for her where she can be more independent.

“They make her room more accessible for her,” said Jim Chrysler, Kylie’s father. “It gives her a lot more freedom in her daily life and a space to be in.”

Project manager Linda Salomons met with Kylie and her family before starting this project. Salomons said she got to know Kylie’s interests before planning what would go into her new room.

“Just very lively,” Salomons said of Kylie. “She showed me all her things in her room and told me all about her preferences. I had a lot of questions for her, like ‘what motto might she live by? What are her favorite books? Her favorite games? Her favorite colors?'”

Painting began today and A Room To Heal will be working on the room through Sunday. The Chrysler family said they are looking forward to the big unveiling.

“She’s a happy kid. She smiles all the time, despite everything she’s going through,” Jim told 12 News. “I think Kylie will be overwhelmed with emotion. I think she’ll definitely be emotional.”

The Chrysler family has not been given any details about what the room will look like as A Room To Heal wants to keep it a secret for Kylie.
