The Dallas Cowboys were forced to make another move on Wednesday, this time due to injury. Already without its nominal offensive tackle after Sunday’s opener, the club took another hit to the lineup on Wednesday. With left tackle Chuma Edoga out for 4-6 weeks with a broken toe, Dallas may have also lost backup Earl Bostick, Jr. on Wednesday.

To ensure they have enough players for practice, Dallas practiced with two players on Wednesday and signed Cohl Cabral. To make room on the roster, Dallas waived DE Shaka Toney with an injury (groin). Toney had only joined the team in the last few weeks.

Cabral, 26, was an undrafted rookie signed by the Los Angeles Rams out of Arizona State and has been passed around the league since then. He has also played for the Minnesota Vikings (under new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer) and the Houston Texans. Despite being in the league since 2020, he has yet to play in a regular season game.

Dallas is down to four committed offensive tackles: Tyler Guyton, Terence Steele, Asim Richards and Matt Waletzko. Josh Ball and rookie Nathan Thomas also have tackle experience but play inside. Thomas himself has missed some time recently due to injury.

Before Edoga’s injury, the Cowboys seemed to be looking at Guyton as a starter, but that’s now a sure thing. Unless the first-round pick from Oklahoma is a disaster — and his 21 snaps against the Rams were impressive — it’s hard to imagine Edoga back in the starting lineup when he returns in September.

The changes now made are for security and training purposes, as the camp still lasts over a week.
