Lincoln Road sets up large instruments so people can experience a musical moment this summer – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

Sometimes size really does matter. Just ask the folks at Lincoln Road. There’s a new installation there that’s filling the street with new sounds. Deco’s resident musician Alex Miranda is here with a new song.

Lincoln Road is usually filled with the sounds of shoppers, diners and wind chimes, but now musical instruments are joining the mix. You can now have your own musical moment on Lincoln Road and Washington Avenue.

A language we all speak…

Frankie: This is definitely an accidental masterpiece. I have no idea what I’m doing, but it sounds good.”

…is music.

Lyle Stern: “I believe music is the cultural heart of the soul. I believe music makes us happy. It can make us sad. It can make us think. It can make us express our inner thoughts. It is the way we communicate. It is the way people communicated before there were words.”

So it’s no surprise: people from all walks of life are enjoying the new harmony installation on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach.

Lyle Stern: “Adults and children all come with no direction, discover music and start playing it. What’s interesting is that no two people play the same instrument in the same way. So it’s about self-expression.”

Yes, when Natalie hits that thing back there like a hammer.

Alex Miranda: “Do you know or are you just kidding?”

Natalie: “I’m just having fun.”

Alex Miranda: “It doesn’t really matter what it is, does it?”

Natale: “No, it’s just a way to interact with the environment, the community. It’s a really nice addition to Lincoln Road.”

Alex Miranda: “OK, show me what you’ve got. Come on. Will it top the charts? Will you make the Billboard charts?”

Natalie: “Of course. I just feel the mood and play the instrument.”

Alex Miranda: “Who will be on the remix?”

Natalie: “I don’t know, I’m a solo artist.”

And little Sarah could be a future Mozart.

Lydia: “She’s having a great time. She wanted to come back. We were here yesterday, so she wanted to come back today.”

Alex Miranda: “Oh, so this is your second time?”

Lydia: “Yes, it’s the second time. Yes.”

Yolanda flew in from Peru and stopped by during an afternoon stroll.

Alex Miranda: “Are you having fun?”

Yolanda: “Oh yes. It’s great fun. I remember having piano lessons as a little kid.”

Well, she’s still got it.

(Yolanda plays the instruments.)

Alex Miranda: “That sounds great!”

Yolanda: “Thank you!”

Alex Miranda: “That sounds really good!”

Yolanda: “Thank you! Thank you!”

I thanked these police officers for a completely new service.

(The officers play the instruments.)

Officer: I really enjoy it. I think it’s fun and a good stress reliever, especially with this type of work. So I think it’s a great idea that they have this here.”

And you can sing into a toy microphone anytime.

Song: “I set the tone, this is my design. And it will stick in your head. The legacy is undisputed.”

Come and experience your own musical moment on Lincoln Road and Washington Avenue.

Lyle Stern: “Everything is free. It’s free. It’s part of the Lincoln Road experience. It’s part of the Miami Beach cultural experience. We’re excited to be able to offer that.”

Lyle also said they plan to use the space for music events in the future.
