What’s new to eat, drink and see at this season’s Michigan Renaissance Festival

A world of fantasy and fairytale comes to life this weekend in Holly with the opening of the 45th annual Michigan Renaissance Festival.

In addition to 17 entertainment stages, 150 artisans, themed weekends, live tournaments and pub crawls, several new attractions will be added in the 2024 season, which begins Saturday and runs through September 29.

The House of Dragons, a brand new dragon-themed pub for over-21s, joins the range of old-fashioned taverns in the village of Hollygrove.

All ages can enjoy other new attractions, such as the Barbie Mermaid exhibit, freeze-dried candy and two new games, the Crow’s Nest and Barrell Ride. For those looking to elevate their Renaissance Festival experience even further, event organizers are offering Season and Royal Pass holders a “VIP pampering program” that includes improved restroom access, cold drinks in the shade and other enhanced amenities.

In addition to the expected culinary offerings like turkey legs, Scotch eggs and fried treats, Ren Fest also offers gluten-free, vegan and healthier options like vegan chili and hummus with vegetables. Organizers tell us that one of the new menu offerings this year is a stuffed baked potato, topped with options like chili and cheese or pulled pork.

Grab a snack as you stroll, or pre-book a ticket for an experience such as Tournament Brunch, King’s Happy Hour at Blackstone Castle, whiskey tastings and the popular six-course Feast of Fantasy menu, starting at $100 per person.

The festival is located at 12600 Dixie Hwy. in Holly. General admission for adults starts at $23.95 and parking is $10. Call (248) 634-5552 or visit michrenfest.com.
