Since joining Puck, sports media insider John Ourand has not appeared on any podcast medium except as a guest. When he was at Sports Business Journal, he co-hosted with Andrew Marchand (then at the New York Post and now at The Athletic) The Marchand and Ourand Sports Media Podcastst in tandem.
The new iteration of this podcast for SBJ is The sports media podcast with Austin Karp. Neither Ourand nor Marchand have found a permanent podcasting home, as the latter went to The Athletic, where he joins Richard Deitsch, who is Sports media with Richard Deitsch well established.
While Marchand’s podcast future is still unclear, we now have a little more insight into Ourand’s next steps at Puck. The veteran sports media insider announced Wednesday that a new podcast, Varsity, will debut at Puck.

While the audio version will be available wherever you get your podcasts, Ourand told some of its social media followers that it won’t be available on YouTube — at least not for now. In any case, Puck’s sports media podcast will be an extension of Ourand’s newsletter under the same name.
You can find out more from the podcast description here.
Puck sports correspondent John Ourand and a rotating cast of industry insiders take you into the executive suites and owner’s boxes that run the entire sports business. You’ll hear interviews with everyone from players to network executives and everyone in between. The Varsity is an extension of John’s private email for Puck of the same name. New episodes are released twice weekly, every Wednesday and Sunday.
The University promises to be a must-read for anyone who wants to familiarize themselves with the ins and outs of sports media.
