Fundraiser in Butte raises money for local Big Brothers Big Sisters program

A benefit festival benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Butte-Silver Bow supports the next generation.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Butte-Silver Bow, in partnership with Butte Auto and TDS Telecom, will host the 14th annual Rhythm and Brews event this Saturday starting at noon at The Original Mineyard.

In addition to the typical festival activities like live music from local bands, food trucks and raffles, there are also plenty of family-friendly activities including an obstacle course, a foam machine, arts and crafts and yoga, plus beer from breweries across Montana and even a vintage car show.

Organizers say this event is critical to securing funding for the nonprofit so it can continue to serve the community.

“Last year the game was canceled due to rain. So we had a pretty rough year and I think that set the tone for the whole year. Of course, because of inflation, all of our costs for our games have gone up as well. That money stays in the community. So all of the money we make here goes to our kids,” said Laci Peck Ridder, executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Butte-Silver Bow.

The nonprofit organization has two programs:

A community-based program in which an adult signs up to take a small outing in the community, such as fishing or going to the movies.

A school-based program in which a child signs up to serve as a mentor in an elementary school.

There are waiting lists for both programs.

Admission to the festival is free. You can purchase a commemorative glass and two drink coupons for $25 or two glasses and four coupons for $40. Volunteers for the event are still needed. Those interested should call Big Brothers Big Sisters of Butte-Silver Bow at 406-782-9644.
