United Way brings Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to Adams County

United Way of Adams County partners with Dolly Parton to bring her Imagination library program to Adams County.

United Way will launch Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library for Adams County with a special event on Saturday morning, September 7, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Quincy Public Library.

Children who are enrolled by their parents in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library receive a new, age-appropriate book in the mail every month, free of charge, from birth to the child’s fifth birthday. This creates a personal library of up to 60 books that can form the basis of a child’s first reading experiences.

In 1995, Dolly founded her “Imagination Library” in honor of her father, who could neither read nor write, so that no child would grow up without being able to read.

Today, the Dollywood Foundation’s flagship program is an international book giving program operating in five countries, giving away over 3 million books each month, and has given away over 240 million books since its inception.

“We are pleased that the Dolly Parton Imagination Library provides high-quality literature to every single registered child in Adams County from birth to age five each month,” said Jenna Hull, executive director of the United Way of Adams County.

“The research is clear: children’s literacy skills depend on early and sustained exposure to books and reading.”

Adams County residents interested in learning more about registering for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library can either visit here or contact the United Way of Adams County at 217-222-5020.
