John Cena has had a legendary career in the professional wrestling ring, but he will be calling it a day in 2025. This is a significant moment for the industry, and the 16-time world champion has been preparing for it. After all, he has been a professional wrestler practically his entire life, and the WWE is largely responsible for launching his successful Hollywood career.
John Cena recently spoke about the mental preparation he needs for his upcoming retirement. Cena is scheduled to embark on a farewell tour in 2025, taking part in over 30 dates throughout the year as he says goodbye to the WWE Universe.
While speaking with Instinct Culture at the premiere of Jackpot!, Cena was asked how he was mentally preparing for retirement. He admitted that he has been preparing for it for a long time. In fact, he has been hinting that it might be imminent for over five years.
“It’s something I’ve been preparing for for a long time. If you go back to interviews, I started talking about it maybe in 2019. I’m ready for it. Now is the perfect time to do it. I’ve got a little bit of time left in 2025 and WWE has been great with the schedules. They thought it was a great idea. They kind of embraced the idea. We’ve stretched it out to a year. 36 dates. I feel great. It’s a happy thing. I’m not going to tell anyone how to feel because I don’t believe in it, but I’m going to approach it with an optimistic mindset.”
Cena has confirmed that he will be attending the premiere of WWE Raw on Netflix, the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 41. Although he obviously knew that his career as a professional wrestler would end at some point, he will stay with WWE for a while longer to accompany them through some important milestones.
John Cena has announced that he will make approximately 36 appearances for WWE during his retirement tour. Although we do not yet know how many matches he will have, it is likely that WWE will choose his final opponents with great care. The big question is who will be the last to face him, as this will indeed be a historic match.
Now that John Cena has retired, he is sure to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. That would be the crowning achievement of a legendary career, but it remains to be seen what other surprises he has in store for us along the way.
