Center for People celebrates 21st anniversary with fundraiser “People’s Party”

LINCOLN, Nebraska (KOLN) – For the past two decades, the Center for People has worked closely with state leaders and donors to directly address the needs of the people of the nation’s capital.

To celebrate 21 years of service, the center is hosting a “People’s
Party fundraiser to highlight and continue efforts.

The event will take place on Saturday, August 10, at the Robber’s Cave event space. Executive Director Macala Carter said there will be something for everyone at the event.

There will be local food trucks like Ybor, Rutabagas and Sweets on the Street. There will also be activities like Genna tattoos and a silent auction. Carter said the many prizes include tickets to an upcoming Huskers game.

The AM/FM band will provide entertainment for the evening with a set of 80s music.

Center leaders said the center’s success is an indicator of the need for help in the community. The center said some families depend on the services they provide and if they were to close tomorrow, it could have devastating consequences for people in the community. Michaela Weverka, director of Talent Marketplace, said nearly 5,000 people would be unable to feed their families or lose the chance at a better life.

For this reason, the center hosts the People’s Party fundraiser to keep the center’s programs running with help from the community.
