Royals release new photo of Princess Charlotte on her ninth birthday

Princess Charlotte is nine. Today, the young royal celebrated her birthday with her family, including mother Princess Catherine, father Prince William and her brothers George (10) and Louis (6). To celebrate the date, Kate and William shared a new portrait of their daughter on their social media channels, which the Princess of Wales took herself.

In the pretty picture, Charlotte can be seen leaning against a flower bush in a garden at Wales’ Adelaide Cottage in Windsor Home Park and smiling openly at the camera. She wears a navy jumper top over a white and blue ruffled shirt, a blue denim skirt and navy tights. She keeps warm in a raspberry cardigan.

“Happy 9th birthday Princess Charlotte!” the Wales family captioned the post. They added: “Thank you for all the lovely messages today.”

A Kensington Palace spokesperson confirmed to Harper’s Bazaar that the photo was taken in Windsor in the “last few days” and was not edited.

Kate, a self-proclaimed amateur photographer, regularly photographs the family. For her son Prince Louis’ sixth birthday on April 23, she published a portrait of the little prince that she had also taken.

As Bazaar reported, Kate is keeping a low profile and spending time at home with William and their children while she undergoes cancer treatment. In a personal video message on March 22, she revealed that doctors had discovered cancer in her body during abdominal surgery in January and had therefore begun preventative chemotherapy.

Kate said the diagnosis was “a huge shock” for her and William, but most importantly, she explained, “we needed time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that was appropriate for them and to reassure them that I was going to be OK.”

Despite everything, she said she is “doing well” and feeling “stronger every day.” She is focused on making a full recovery.
