Rachael Gunn, also known by her breakdancing name Raygun, rose to prominence during the 2024 Paris Olympics, but the Australian is attracting even more attention after she was recently filmed busting a move or two in front of her cheering fans.

Gunn is a 36-year-old university lecturer from Sydney who made waves with her performance on the Place de la Concorde during the breakdancing competition at the Paris Games. Many people online and even Grammy winner Adele poked fun at Gunn’s unique moves.

“I think this is the best thing that has happened at the Olympics in all time,” the British singer said of Gunn’s dancing on stage during a concert in Munich. “Did anyone see the breakdancing lady? I didn’t even know that breakdancing was an Olympic discipline these days. I think that (swear word) is fantastic.”

Adele went on to say that she and her friends “laughed for almost 24 hours” about Gunn’s dancing, but she said it made her “very, very happy.”

Despite the jokes, Gunn continues to enjoy the spotlight and some lucky fans even got the chance to see her breakdance in person. TikTok user @jeanmitchell posted a video of Gunn dancing in the street as fans surround her and scream after her every move. The caption read: “(swear word) QUEEN”

How did Raygun perform at the Paris Olympics?

Although Gunn is gaining more and more fans, the Olympia judges were less than impressed and did not give the “B-Girl” a single point during the entire competition. She lost to Logistx from the USA, Syssy from France and Nicka from Lithuania, losing each time 18-0.

Gunn, who wrote her doctoral thesis on the intersection of gender and Sydney’s breakdancing culture, also represented Australia at the 2021 and 2022 World Championships before securing a spot at the Olympics through the 2023 Oceania Championships, CNN reported.

“In 2023, many of my students didn’t believe me when I told them I was training to qualify for the Olympics and were shocked when they looked on Google and saw that I was qualified,” Gunn told CNBC earlier this month.

While most of the 32 B-Boys and B-Girls at the Paris Games have been taking part in breakdance battles since their youth, Gunn only took part in her first battle in 2012.

“All of my moves are original,” Raygun told CNN after competing in Paris. “Creativity is really important to me. I go out there and show my artistry. Sometimes it appeals to the judges, sometimes it doesn’t. I do my thing and it’s art. That’s what it’s about.”
