Lord John and the Scottish Prisoner is the next book in our reading group. Of course with the title The Scottish Prisonerit raises questions about a certain Scotsman in the Outlander series. Is Jamie Fraser in this book?
While Lord John Grey’s books are certainly worth reading in their own right, there are some fans who are not interested in the character. They only read books that feature Jamie or Claire, which limits the number of Lord John books they read.
I think they’re all worth reading, especially to learn more about John and Hal’s storylines. Written with my own heart and soul And Go tell the bees I’m gone. I think we also get to see a different side of some of the characters, especially when it comes to Jamie, since we see him from John’s perspective.
The Scottish Prisoner features a certain Jamie Fraser. In fact, the novel is split between the perspectives of Jamie and John, giving it more of a Outlander feeling compared to the other books about the British officer.
Jamie is still on parole in Helwater. Eventually he meets a Jacobite who is still committed to the cause. However, Jamie is done with politics. It’s not like he wanted to get involved in the Jacobite Rising in the first place. Jamie also knows that the Jacobite Rising is now a lost cause. What’s the point of fighting?
Meanwhile, John has a mission that will take him to Ireland. It turns out he could use someone else on that journey, and Jamie is the man who accompanies him. This was before their friendship became what we know it to be. Outlander Books so we can see this friendship blossom.
