Delta Airlines installs Wi-Fi in 700 aircraft

Delta Airlines has announced that it plans to install free, high-speed Wi-Fi for passengers across its fleet of nearly 700 aircraft.

Delta called it a dream come true and pointed out that its customers would have an internet connection before the end of the summer.

This was announced on Monday in a statement by Senior Vice President of Customer Experience Design, Ranjan Goswami.

Goswami said SkyMiles enrollment will not be required when the international Wi-Fi portal launches, but later this year all of the airline’s Viasat Wi-Fi-equipped aircraft will transition to the Delta Sync Wi-Fi experience, which connects to travelers’ SkyMiles memberships.

The airline, which is seeing a huge increase in international travelers this summer, introduced Wi-Fi for the first time on flights between the U.S. and France in July.

“Free Wi-Fi will be available on flights between the US and the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Italy. Starting in September, free Wi-Fi will also be available on routes to Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Greece, Portugal, Sweden and Switzerland,” said Goswami.

He pointed out that destinations in South America and Hawaii would offer free Wi-Fi starting in October, “followed by Nigeria, Ghana and Senegal in December/January 2025. Finally, routes to Asia, Australia and New Zealand, as well as South Africa, will also have free Wi-Fi starting in mid/late 2025.”

Goswami added: “By continuing to expand fast, free Wi-Fi and the associated in-flight experiences, we can serve customers in new, spontaneous ways on domestic and international journeys.

“The extent to which we are offering free Wi-Fi to our customers is unprecedented in the airline industry and is a testament to the incredible efforts of Delta teams across the company who have expertly managed an extremely complex rollout.”
