Three candidates in the Republican primaries decide on the candidate for the 8th Congressional District

(WLUK) — On Tuesday, voters will choose the winner in the race between three Republican candidates for northeastern Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District.

State Senator Andre Jacque, former State Senator Roger Roth and businessman Tony Wied are the three primary candidates. The winner will face Democrat Kristin Lyerly in the November 5 general election.

The race appeared on the ballot twice on Tuesday. Voters will first choose candidates to serve the remainder of former Rep. Mike Gallagher’s term, which ends Jan. 3, and then a candidate for the regular two-year 2025-27 term.

The 8th District represents about 730,000 people, or about 12% of Wisconsin’s total population. It covers a large portion of northeastern Wisconsin.

FOX 11 will broadcast live coverage from the teams throughout the evening, with a reporter covering each season.

State Senator Andre Jacque

Jacques’ team will meet at the Cedar Creek Event Center in De Pere and eagerly await the results of the 8th District race on Tuesday.

Similar to Roth, Jacque draws on his experience as a state legislator. Jacque was first elected to the State Assembly in 2010 before being elected as a State Senator in 2018.

Jacque described himself as a “proven conservative choice.”

In March, he first announced his plans to run for the 8th Congressional District seat.

Jacque has been very active in the election campaign recently and has attracted attention at numerous events and parades in the district.

FOX 11 spoke with him a few days ago and he reiterated that one of his top priorities if elected would be to better secure the southern border.

Jacque is supported by groups such as the National Association of Police Organizations, Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz and Wisconsin’s 6th District Congressman Glenn Grothman.

The doors of the Cedar Creek Events Center open at 8 p.m.

FOX 11’s Andrew Mertins will be reporting live on the Roth campaign on FOX 11 News at Five and Nine.

Former State Senator Roger Roth

Fox Valley businessman and military veteran Roger Roth will meet with supporters Tuesday at the American Legion in Appleton.

Roth cast his vote today at his polling station in Appleton, completing six months of campaigning.

Roth was the first Republican to enter the race for the 8th Congressional District, announcing his candidacy in February, just hours after former Congressman Mike Gallagher announced he would not seek re-election.

Since launching his campaign, Roth has tried to focus on three priorities: securing the border, restoring American values and ending what he calls “Bidenomics.”

Roth, a conservative businessman, said if elected, he would correct the “disastrous” policies of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

This is not Roth’s first attempt to run for Congress. He ran for the same seat in 2010, but lost the primary to Reid Ribble.

Roth served as a member of the Senate for eight years and a member of the State Assembly for four years.

The 46-year-old Appleton native was also the Republican candidate for lieutenant governor when Tim Michels lost to Governor Tony Evers in 2022.

The doors don’t open here until 7:45 p.m. We were told that after the results are announced, Roth will come and go and speak to supporters.

FOX 11’s Emily Matesic will be reporting live on the Roth campaign on FOX 11 News at Five and Nine.

Tony Wied

Tony Wied announced his candidacy four months ago at the new Legacy Hotel in the Stadium District and hopes to celebrate a primary victory there on Tuesday evening.

Wied has leaned heavily on the support of former President Donald Trump throughout his campaign. You see it on all of his campaign posters and hear it in all of his television and radio ads.

Donald Trump Jr. campaigned for Wied in De Pere in June. Wied also tried to distinguish himself by emphasizing that he was the only Republican candidate without a political background.

Wied used to own the Dino Stop gas stations. He sold them two years ago.

Doors to Wied’s event will open at 8 p.m. tonight, but he will not appear until the results are in. Then he will address his supporters, a campaign spokesman said.

FOX 11’s Ben Krumholz will be reporting live on the Roth campaign on FOX 11 News at Five and Nine.
