In a recent interview, Michael Keaton gave fans of Beetlejuice a reason to look forward to the long-awaited sequel, Beetlejuice 2. Titled, Beetlejuice BeetlejuiceIt is produced by Brad Pitt’s studio Plan B Entertainment together with Warner Bros.
Keaton, who returns as the iconic Ghost with the Most, revealed to Total Film that the new film has an even stronger storyline than the original 1988 classic. “There are more connections for the audience to the other characters,” Keaton shared, adding that the film is a “stronger story” and unexpected joys that exceeded his own expectations. He continued: “There are things here that I was not prepared for that are more than delightful. Instead of saying, “I can’t wait for that thing to show up” or “I just want that thing called Beetlejuice to go crazy.”

The sequel, directed by Tim Burton, arrives 36 years after the original, leaving fans eager to learn new details. While much of the plot remains under wraps, we do know that Winona Ryder’s character Lydia Deetz now hosts a popular television series. Haunted House with Lydia DeetzHer daughter Astrid, played by Jenna Ortega, resents this and paves the way for conflict. The death of Lydia’s father Charles Deetz leads the family back to Winter River, Connecticut, where Beetlejuice is brought back to life.

Warner Bros. has given a little taste of what’s to come: “After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return to Winter River. With trouble brewing in both worlds, it’s only a matter of time before someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and brings the mischievous demon back to unleash his own chaos.”

While “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice” brings many iconic characters back to the screen, two of the most important characters seem to have been forgotten.
The original Beetlejuice Beetlejuice follows the Maitlands, a ghostly couple who hire Beetlejuice to evict the Deetz family from their home. The plan backfires, leading to a memorable finale involving a sandworm that puts an end to Beetlejuice’s escapades. Beetlejuice was released in 1988 and quickly became a commercial and critical success, cementing its place as a cult classic in the world of black comedy and fantasy films.
Directed by Tim Burton, the film grossed over $73 million on a modest $15 million budget, becoming a major box office hit. Critics praised the imaginative story, eccentric characters and groundbreaking special effects, which combined with Burton’s unique visual style to create an unforgettable and whimsical cinematic experience. Keaton’s portrayal of the mischievous and chaotic Beetlejuice was particularly praised.
On July 18, Warner Bros. released the second trailer for Beetlejuice 2. This teaser, twice as long as the first, offers a deeper look at the film, including Keaton’s return and Ortega’s portrayal of Astrid. The trailer shows Astrid dealing with bullies at school and her mother’s decision to move the family back to the haunted house from Lydia’s youth. As expected, supernatural chaos reigns and Beetlejuice makes his grand return.
While Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis are not reprising their roles as the Maitlands, fans will see Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz and Ryder as Lydia. New cast members include Justin Theroux as Rory, Monica Bellucci as Delores, Willem Dafoe as ghost cop Wolf Jackson, and Danny DeVito in a cameo role.
