Pathfinder and Warhammer RPG developer Owlcat joins the publishing house

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous And Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader Developer Owlcat Games has officially entered the publishing sector and has already signed deals with two up-and-coming RPG developers.

According to a press release, Owlcat’s first two projects as publisher will be Emotion Spark Studios. Rue Valley and Another Angle Games’ Shadow of the roadBoth are rather traditional looking role-playing games that approach the genre from different angles.

Rue Valley looks like it takes some pretty strong cues from Disco Elysium; it’s a narratively rich role-playing game in which a man struggling with psychological issues is trapped in a mysterious time loop. What are the chances that this is all just in his head?

One of Owlcat’s first two publishing projects is Disco Elysium-Style narrative role-playing game Rue Valley.

Rue Valley allows you to shape your character’s personality as you play, and you will unlock “Intentions and Mindsets” as you progress through the game. The Disco Elysium the influence is really clear, isn’t it?

If you are looking for a more traditional combat-centered RPG, then Shadow of the road is probably where you want to apply. Set in Japan, the RPG combines tactical combat with a steampunk-inspired take on feudal Japan, which also happens to be overrun by magical yokai.

You compete against “relentless samurai”, “bizarre yokai” and “relentless steampunk mercenaries” in Shadow of the roadand you can also decide whether you want to play as a noble Ronin or a traitorous warrior.

Owlcat says that both games are currently “in early development,” but we’ll learn more about both at Gamescom later this month. Exciting stuff!

Shadow of the road seems to be a much more combat-heavy experience than Rue Valley.

In addition to entering the publishing sector, Owlcat also announced the acquisition of control of the publishing label META Publishing, which was partly responsible for the publishing sector. Wrath of the Righteous on both PC and consoles. We’ll also learn more about what META (not to be confused with Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta) is later this month.

Stay tuned for more on this and all other things Owlcat. In the meantime, if you want to familiarize yourself with the studio’s back catalogue, you can check out our Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous Review, and you can read our interview with Owlcat about Rogue Trader.
