VALPARAISO – A 24-year-old Valparaiso man is accused of raping a woman he knew after telling her it was his birthday when she resisted, police said.
Cody Shidler is charged with rape and appeared at the Porter County Detention Center Tuesday morning.
“The police were also involved in four chases, which also count towards the total number of arrests,” the ISP said.
Chesterton police said the alleged victim told them she was home late Sunday morning watching a movie with Shidler when the two began kissing.
She said she resisted Shidler’s repeated sexual advances and told him to stop and not continue, police said. But he allegedly continued to pressure her, asking her why she didn’t want more and that it was his birthday.
“My heart is broken, my eyes are swollen and my head is pounding,” said Kaylee Tello, president of Northlake Pop Warner.
According to police, Shidler then held the woman in a position from which she could not escape and raped her.
Shidler reportedly apologized after the assault and later sent her a message apologizing and taking blame.
