Three brands have set up shop in the back of the multi-label boutique Nana & Bird for a year: Aaah House by the cool designer couple Ella Zheng and Ryan Len, the interior design store Studio Yono by Kaia Nelk and the jewelry label Trigger Happy by Zheng.
Although officially unnamed, this triumvirate shares a similar approach to art and design in Singapore. Studio Yono, which offers affordable, mid-priced European designer homewares not available anywhere else in Singapore, was born out of Nelk’s experience of moving here from the Netherlands and finding a lack of such decorating options.
Zheng and Len have harbored a desire to open and run a business for years. Aaah House (named, according to Len, after a previous idea to open a shop in their home) is an extension of their fun and quirky design sensibilities. There’s a line called Aaah Haus that features humorous, cynical remixes of everyday objects, as well as creations like zines, ceramics, t-shirts, and perfumes from local brands and designers. There’s also Zheng’s jewelry brand Trigger Happy, for which she creates intricately crafted, one-of-a-kind beaded pieces.
