ROCKINGHAM – The Richmond Senior High School volleyball team started the season with a sweep on Monday.

To kick off the new season, the Lady Raiders defeated non-league Forest Hills High School 3-0 at home.

Richmond won the first set 25-13, thanks in part to an 11-0 run at the service line by veteran setter Ava Edmondson, who hit five aces in the first set.

Richmond won the second set 25-15 to take a 10-1 lead, with both Edmondson and sophomore libero Kenley Smith getting it rolling with multiple aces each.

A strong performance from the entire team resulted in a 25-8 score in the final set. Sophomore Riley McDonald (middle attacker) and third-year J’Nasia Neal (outside attacker) were two of the numerous contributors who scored kills.
