OBITUARY

James John Campana, 75, of Lorain, Ohio passed away peacefully at home on August 10, 2024. Born March 6, 1949, Jimmy lived his entire life in Lorain, building a legacy of hard work, dedication and love for his family and community. A proud graduate of Admiral King High School, class of 1967, Jimmy began his career at the young age of 12 working alongside his father in the family business, Campana Concrete. In 1990, he purchased the company when his father, Baldo Campana, retired. Jimmy continued to run Campana Concrete with the same integrity and dedication that had been its foundation. After Jimmy’s retirement in 2014, the company closed, marking the end of an era for the Campana family. Jimmy was married to his beloved wife, MaryAnn Campana, for 39 wonderful years. Together they shared a life filled with love, laughter and adventure. He also leaves behind three children: Toni Ann Shanahan (Scott Shanahan), Robert James Campana, and Baldo James “BJ” Campana (Jennifer Campana). His pride and joy were his six grandchildren: Alexandria, Abygael, Alivia, Liam, Alec, and Kyle, and his five great-grandchildren: Greyson, Aria, Mia, Jasper, and Penelope. Jimmy was a devoted son to his parents, the late Baldo Campana and Mary Campana (née Cambria). He was predeceased by his brother Thomas Campana (2014) and sister Carol Campana (2023). He is survived by his twin brother Joseph Campana (Jaye Campana) and his sister Cynthia Elkins (Paul Elkins). Jimmy also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly. He also leaves behind Sandra Campana, the mother of his three children. In addition to his many contributions to the community, Jimmy was proud to create the “V for Victory” memorial in Lorain’s Victory Park on Lake Road, a lasting symbol of his devotion to the city he loved. His pride in supporting his city and the Lorain Lighthouse was a reflection of his deep love for his hometown. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst.
