Jazz signs two-way contract with NBA G-League Rookie of the Year

Jazz signs two-way contract with NBA G-League Rookie of the Year

The Utah Jazz made two changes to their roster on Monday. According to Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype, the Jazz released two-way player Taeveon Kinsey.

Kinsey signed with the Jazz after going undrafted in the 2023 NBA Draft. In March 2024, Kinsey signed a 10-day contract with Utah, but never played in a game. He returned to Utah and signed a two-way contract for the 2024-25 season before being released.

Kinney will be replaced by Oscar Tshiebwe, who signed a two-way contract with Utah on Monday. Tshiebwe comes from the Indiana Pacers, where he spent the 2023-24 season on a two-way contract.

Tshiebwe was named Rookie of the Year last season while playing for the Indiana Mad Ants of the NBA G-League, just after being named 2022 National Player of the Year for the University of Kentucky.

Although Tshiebwe is a below-average NBA center at 6’1″, he has a knack for dominating the boards. In his rookie season, he broke a G-League record by grabbing 16.2 rebounds per game. Tshiebwe recorded 27 double-doubles and broke the Mad Ants’ single-game rebounding record with 28 rebounds.

Tshiebwe will look to break up the rotation of a crowded frontcourt. Currently, Utah has three players on the roster who can play the center position. Walker Kessler is expected to be the starter, with John Collins and Drew Eubanks as backups. Utah also has some flexibility if they want to play small with Taylor Hendricks and Kyle Filipowski.
