Maria C. Martin, 93, of Versailles passed away at her home on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 2:10 p.m. She was born October 27, 1930 in Zapopan, Mexico to Jose Jesus and Ramona Covarrubias Cuevas. She was married to Raymond Martin, who predeceased her on April 11, 2001. She is survived by three sons, Jessie (Paula) Cuellar of St. Leon, Michael (Jeanette) Cuellar of Harrison, Ohio, and Richard (Teresa) Cuellar of Indianapolis; two daughters, Marta Fox of North Vernon and Mary Ann (Arthur) Roell of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jose Cuevas, and her sister Socorro Miller. Mrs. Martin’s professional career spanned many years, during which she served as a janitor at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Shelbyville and Waldron High School. She also worked as a nursing assistant at Silver Bell Nursing Home in Versailles. The viewing will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery in Shelbyville with the Rev. Paul Landwehlen officiating. Donations may be made at the cemetery and will be handled by the funeral home.
