Beetlejuice: Michael Keaton says Beetlejuice has a “stronger story” than the original film

Michael Keaton says that Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has a “stronger story” than Tim Burton’s original film.

Beetlejuice “Beetlejuice” will be released in US theaters in September 2024. In the film, the sequel to “Beetlejuice” from 1988, Keaton once again takes on the role of the mischievous Betelgeuse.

What did Michael Keaton say about Beetlejuice Beetlejuice?

Speaking to Total Film Magazine about the film, Keaton said he believes Beetlejuice has a “stronger story” than the first Beetlejuice film. He also said that “the audience has a stronger connection to the other characters.”

Keaton continued, “There are things here that I wasn’t prepared for, but are beyond delightful. Instead of saying, ‘I can’t wait for this thing to show up,’ or ‘I just want this thing called Beetlejuice to go crazy.'”

In addition to Keaton, the film stars Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz, Jenna Ortega as Astrid Deetz, Justin Theroux as Rory, Monica Belluci as Delores and Willem Dafoe as Wolf Jackson.

“I’m very confident that it will meet and exceed expectations. It certainly met mine and mine are way up there,” Ryder said. “I think literally every generation can find something in it that they will really appreciate.”

Theroux added: “This movie has some very big twists. There’s the phantasmagoria and it feels slightly out of control and loopy. It has that vibe. It’s clear that this movie wasn’t made by taking audience polls and studio notes and asking executives, ‘So what’s the most satisfying third act?’ This is 100% like someone opening the front of Tim Burton’s head and dropping it on the screen. It’s a fabulous journey for that very reason.”

Beetlejuice, directed by Burton, will be released in U.S. theaters on September 6, 2024 by Warner Bros. Pictures. The original Beetlejuice film is currently streaming on Max.
