May 18 (UPI) – Rudy Giuliani’s 80th birthday celebration in Florida was interrupted when the former New York City mayor was served with an indictment for allegedly conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 election in Arizona.
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes confirmed on social media that Giuliani was served with an indictment on Friday evening.
“The last defendant was summoned moments ago. @RudyGiuliani, no one is above the law,” Mayes wrote.
Giuliani is one of 18 allies of former President Donald Trump who were indicted last month on charges of fraud, forgery and conspiracy in the so-called “Fake Electors” scheme, an alleged scheme designed to award the state’s 11 electoral votes to Trump rather than President Joe Biden, who won the state.
Giuliani was served shortly after he posted a now-deleted message on social media mocking Arizona authorities.
“If the authorities in Arizona cannot find me by tomorrow, they will have to 1) dismiss the charges and 2) admit that they cannot count the votes,” he wrote.
The message was accompanied by a photo showing a smiling Giuliani surrounded by party guests and gold and black balloons.
The delivery of the indictment concluded the celebration of the former mayor’s 80th birthday at the home of Republican consultant Caroline Wren in Palm Beach, Florida.
“Even though crime in Arizona is at an all-time high, the Arizona Secretary of State’s office thought it would make sense to send multiple agents across the country to storm an 80th birthday party like it was Normandy,” Wren told the New York Post.
Giuliani had previously live-streamed part of the celebrations, which included a patriotic-themed cake and the mayor singing Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York.”
Party attendees included Steve Bannon and Roger Stone.
