Exclusive: Cult graphics from Dungeons & Dragons reinterpreted as Magic: The Gathering cards

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering is getting five Secret Lair drops themed around both Baldur’s Gate 3 and the famous tabletop role-playing game as a whole. Today we have the exclusive reveal of all seven cards in one of these drops: An Exhibition of Adventure.

Scroll through the gallery below to see all seven cards:

While one of the anniversary drops features Karlach-themed cards and another focuses on Astarion, this drop takes a journey through the entire history of D&D. Each card uses the original cover of a different sourcebook, dating back to the monochrome artwork of 1975’s Dungeons & Dragons Supplement I: Greyhawk, which is featured on the white Fell the Mighty card.

Every edition and generation of D&D is represented in the drop, mainly through the use of imagery from the respective Dungeon Master’s Guide. It’s not just about the DM, though, as the Faithless Looting card is from the 1978 Players Handbook, and the Monster Manual card (itself from the 2022 D&D set Battle for Baldur’s Gate) is very aptly disguised as the 3rd Edition Monster Manual from 2000.

The cards in the other four drops that are part of the Secret Lair x Dungeons & Dragons 50th Anniversary Superdrop have yet to be revealed, but they are titled Astarion’s Thirst, Karlach’s Rage, and Death is in the Eyes of the Beholder I & II. All five will go on sale on the Secret Lair site on August 27.
