Happy Halloween in advance! Two new games based on the John Carpenter classic are coming from the team behind Evil Dead: The Game – and one of them features the director

Great news for horror fans: John Carpenter’s Halloween gets not just one, but two video games, and one of them features the director himself.

It may be the height of summer, but you can never celebrate Halloween too early, right? Okay, we’ll hold off on the seasonal festivities for now, but there are a few reasons to get excited about Halloween, namely the announcement that two games based on the classic film series are coming from Evil Dead: The Game developer Boss Team Games. This comes from IGN, who shared that details are scarce at this time, but both games are being developed “in collaboration with the producers of the Halloween series.”

Notably, one of them is being developed in Unreal Engine 5 and features some input from the original film’s director, John Carpenter. “As a huge gamer myself, I’m very excited to bring Michael Myers back to life in this game and I hope to scare the crap out of you,” Carpenter said in a statement. As Carpenter notes, the film director enjoys playing video games and even talked about his Fallout 76 addiction a few years ago – and he even said he thought Dead Space would be a great movie.

The official press release states that these new games will allow players to “relive moments from the film and play as classic characters from one of the most iconic and important horror films of all time.” How this will play out isn’t entirely clear – the design of the release could be a purely single-player game, or a multiplayer title set in some of the film’s main locations. Given the history of Boss Team Games, who developed the multiplayer game Evil Dead: The Game, an online Halloween title is certainly possible.

“Everyone at Boss Team Games are huge horror fans and Halloween obviously holds a special place in the hearts of all horror fans,” said Steve Harris, CEO of Boss Team Games, in a statement. “To be able to work with iconic characters like Michael Myers and build on John Carpenter’s original vision is literally a dream come true. Everyone at Boss Team is excited and honored to be working with Malek Akkad and John Carpenter to create a unique experience that fans of the film and video games will love.”

Hopefully there’s a dedicated scream button. Because what would a Final Girl be without an iconic scream?
