12 August – Dato’ M. Nasir recently surprised Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim by celebrating his 77th birthday at his 45th anniversary concert “Cipta”.
The music maestro, who informed the audience that the Prime Minister was in the stadium as the guest of honour, initially stated that he would like to sing a song by P. Ramlee for him, but then revealed that the song in question was “Allah Selamatkan Kamu” by P. Ramlee, a birthday song.
Afterwards, the concert team presented Anwar with a Pulut Kuning (sticky rice with turmeric) and M. Nasir then sang the song “Phoenix Bangkit Dari Abu” dedicated to him.
It is worth noting that “Phoenix Bangkit Dari Abu” is a song about the mythical Phoenix bird that never dies but rises from the ashes, and is considered by many to be a battle song.
The Prime Minister also thanked M. Nasir for the surprise birthday gift on social media, writing: “I was invited to the Axiata Arena last night to attend the Concert Cipta and enjoy the golden voice of the great artist M. Nasir. I was impressed when he performed a tribute song for the struggle of the Palestinian people. Thank you also for celebrating my birthday.”
