Gold medalist Arshad Nadeem honored with Buffalo gift after Paris victory

After returning from the Paris Olympics, where he won a historic gold medal in the javelin throw with a record-breaking throw of 92.97 meters, Pakistani athlete Arshad Nadeem was showered with praise and accolades. But one gift stood out in particular: a buffalo from his father-in-law.

Muhammad Nawaz, Nadeem’s father-in-law, told local media that in their village, giving a buffalo as a gift is considered a sign of respect and honour. This traditional gesture reflects the strong cultural ties and deep-rooted values of her rural upbringing. Nawaz, who lives in Nadeem’s village, stressed that despite his international success, Nadeem remains close to his roots and lives with his parents and siblings in their home village.

Nadeem, who won gold at the Paris Olympics, surpassed India’s Neeraj Chopra to achieve the milestone. Nawaz proudly noted that despite his success, Nadeem continues to cherish his heritage and maintains a modest lifestyle.

Nawaz also revealed that when the athlete decided to marry his daughter Ayesha to Nadeem six years ago, he was still working humble jobs and training with limited resources. His dedication and passion for javelin throwing, which he practiced in the fields of his village, was evident even then.

The couple, who now have two sons and a daughter, live in Khanewal, Punjab. Nadeem’s rise to fame is a testament to his perseverance and the support of his community, which played a crucial role in funding his early competitions abroad.

Nawaz expressed his immense pride in Nadeem’s achievements and highlighted his respectful nature and unwavering commitment. Nadeem and Ayesha’s children are now attending the local primary school, while the youngest is still quite young.

In conclusion, while Nadeem has received great recognition for his achievements, his connection to his roots and the unique traditions of his village remains a central part of his identity.
