Anti-tourist activists have been protesting across Spain all summer as locals accuse the country of being flooded with tourists.

Activists in Mallorca blame the number of visitors for problems such as the rising cost of living and the lack of housing for locals.

Photos taken today show protesters holding banners and signs with slogans such as “Tourists, go home” and “Let’s occupy our beaches.”

The group of around 100 activists directed their protest at beachgoers who were sunbathing on the sandy beach during the march.

The campaign group Majorca Platja Tour dominates the Balneario 6 beach, located in Playa de Palma.

The activist group said they chose the area because it was notorious for drunkenness and unrest.

They warned that further demonstrations were expected in the coming weeks, including in the popular holiday and clubbing resort of Magaluf.

“A tourism model that we believe is causing us great harm,” the group criticized.

The idea was to turn the two-hour protest into a “journey into the past” and a family reunion.

“An allusion to Mallorca in the 60s and 70s,” said the group, stressing that the action was “not directed against tourism, but against a tourism model that is impoverishing.”

“We also want to be the voice that reminds our political representatives that they are not only working for the big elites, but for all the citizens of this country,” they concluded, stressing that they are not against tourists, but against the model.

One of the protesters said: “40 years ago, when I was young, I came here to swim, then people came to drink and it got worse.”

Another added: “We try to remember for a moment, for a few hours, that these sandbanks belong to all Mallorcans, not just tourists, but that we can all enjoy them.”

“Many tourists understand this, it is easy to understand that the rent has doubled, that everything is full.”

Last month, anti-tourist activists in Mallorca mocked England’s defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final and demanded that Britain “bring back its drunks”.

Up to 50,000 locals took to the streets in the Mallorcan capital Palma on July 21, demanding a limit on the number of foreign visitors to the Spanish island.

Among them was one holding up a picture of England full-back Kyle Walker, along with the words: “The only thing coming home is you.”

During the mass protest, the second in the city in two months, people also held up banners reading “Bring back your drunks, give us back our homes.”
