On Sunday, locally manufactured weapons and drugs were seized from the room of a Bangladesh Chhatra League leader in Nawab Abdul Latif Hall of Rajshahi University.

During the search of Room 206, the students along with the hall staff seized three sharp weapons, nine iron rods and pipes, foreign wine bottles, cannabis, railway tracks, subscription receipts used for extortion, identity cards of two Varendra University students and bamboo sticks.

The Vice President of RU BCL Nawab Abdul Latif Hall, Tasfiq Al Tawhid, used to live in this room.

Students in the dormitory alleged that Tawhid, who was staying in the dormitory illegally, intimidated and tortured students in his room over trivial matters.

Despite repeated attempts, Tawhid could not be reached by telephone for comment.

Contacted, Rector Professor AHM Mahbubur Rahman of Nawab Abdul Latif Hall said that they would hand over the weapons and drugs to the police administration.

“In cooperation with the police, we will also conduct raids on other suspected premises and take legal action,” he added.

Meanwhile, on Saturday evening, students also stole two bags of sharp weapons from the trunk of a car and arrested the driver.

They later handed over the driver and the weapons to the army.

Despite repeated attempts, none of the army and police officials could be reached for comment by telephone.
