United Airlines flight between Mexico and the US experiences severe turbulence and is forced to make emergency landing in Memphis; 1 passenger hospitalized – Airlines/Aviation News

A United Airlines flight was diverted to Memphis due to severe turbulence, which resulted in one person being hospitalized. Officials said the person was not in critical condition when taken to the hospital after the flight.

The United Airlines flight was en route from Cancun, Mexico to Chicago, but had to make an emergency landing at Memphis International Airport due to the incident.

The Chicago-based airline confirmed that there were 172 passengers and seven crew members on board the 737-900ER aircraft. The turbulence occurred when the fasten seatbelt sign was still illuminated.

According to the Memphis Fire Department, the severity of injuries to six other passengers who refused treatment and transport remains unclear.

Recently, on another flight, two cabin crew members were injured when the plane was hit 20 minutes after takeoff and had to make an emergency landing in Rome. Crew members on the plane from Corfu to London were injured while serving food to the 181 passengers on board.

Previously, Singapore Airlines’ flight from London to Singapore encountered severe turbulence on May 21, forcing the Boeing 777-300ER to divert to Bangkok. Flight SQ321, departing from London Heathrow Airport, encountered severe turbulence over the Irrawaddy Basin in Myanmar about 10 hours into the journey, forcing an emergency landing at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport.
