Set during the Boshin War in feudal Japan, Shadow of the road places players in a war-torn land. The forces of the Tokugawa Shogunate clash with Imperial armies across the land, with both sides suffering mass casualties. However, this fight is not as simple as one side versus the other, as the mythical demons known as Yokai coupled with the steampunk machinations of the devious East Nippon Company make the battlefield a far deadlier and more complex arena.

Neither side will give in or surrender, because they are fighting for something far more important than land or power – a place in history and the future of the empire.
This turn-based tactical RPG transports you to Japan at the bitter and bloody end of the feudal era. You have many enemies, from ruthless samurai to bizarre yokai from the realm of Ne-no-kuni to the relentless steampunk mercenaries of the East Nippon Company, a British trading conglomerate with dubious intentions. Your choices directly affect the outcome of the story – stay true to your principles or choose the path of betrayal. Drive away or be driven away. Drive away the invading shadows with sword, pistol or sorcery, or let them consume you.
Strategy and tactics go hand in hand as players must manage the interpersonal relationships and objectives of each team member while engaging in turn-based, tactical combat. In a world filled with renegade samurai, evil corporations, and mystical demons, only the most cunning battlefield commanders will emerge victorious.
Will you choose a disgraced ronin who has lost his purpose in life but finds hope in the most unexpected places? Or perhaps a lost boy destined to control the lives of many? An avatar of death who lives for love? You will find yourself in all of these roles and more.
