BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Dogs from across Northwest Washington gathered at the Whatcom Humane Society for an afternoon of treats, poop bags and on-leash activities at this year’s Dog Days of Summer Festival.

For four hours, dogs from all walks of life could come together, compete in competitions and dig for treats at “Hound Hill” – a Whatcom Humane Society tradition in which treats, tennis balls and more are buried in a large mound of dirt.

Dave Walker of KAFE was at the event with his dog Dexter. Walker was in desperate need of a new puppy for the house when he met Dexter, who was then an 8-week-old pup that the Whatcom Humane Society had found in a ditch on the Lummi Reservation. 13 years later, Dexter is happier than ever with his best buddy Dave, as the two do just about everything together.
