Winter is coming. It may not look like it on the calendar, but the layer of snow on the peaks of California’s ski resorts suggests otherwise.

Social media posts and webcam footage from Mammoth Mountain and Palisades Tahoe show snow at higher elevations.

Measurable snow fell on Mammoth Mountain at 9,900 feet, and additional snowfall is expected tonight into tomorrow throughout the Sierra Nevada, up to elevations of 8,000 feet.

It’s not quite time to dust off and wax the skis yet, but just the thought of winter gets us excited.

It is the first August snowfall in California in over 20 years.

The season opening for Mammoth Mountain is scheduled for November 15th, and for Palisades Tahoe for November 27th.

🎶 It’s starting to look like Christmas 🎶 ❄️

Too early?? 😳🤣

We told you it could snow at any time! Currently there are only light flurries over Donner Summit, but this is a reminder that winter is just around the corner, so get ready! The roads over Donner Summit are wet and slippery, so drive slowly!
