Hawaiian Airlines offers travel waiver for passengers affected by Tropical Storm Hone

Summary

  • Hawaiian Airlines is offering exemptions and rebookings or credits to passengers affected by Tropical Storm Hone.
  • Passengers traveling to Hilo and Kona should reschedule their travel plans due to expected delays and cancellations.
  • Other airlines, such as Air Canada and Southwest, are offering flexibility to Hawaii travelers during the storm.

Due to the arrival of Tropical Storm Hone, travelers heading to Hawaii were asked to reconsider their travel plans. Hawaiian Airlines has begun issuing travel waivers to affected travelers, with the option to reschedule travel to next week without penalty or receive a credit for the travel cost.

Passengers to Hilo and Kona are asked to postpone their travel plans

Travelers flying on Hawaiian Airlines to or from Hilo (ITO) and Kona (KOA) with bookings on August 24 and 25 may rebook their flights to alternate dates without additional fees. However, the new travel arrangements must be completed by August 29. Travel outside of this period may not qualify for the exemption.

Passengers who change their itinerary can do so at no additional cost, but they must remain in the same cabin class and travel the same route. Those who wish to cancel their travel plans can keep the value of the original ticket as a credit, which must be redeemed within one year of the original purchase date. There are no change fees with this option, but travelers may be required to pay a fare difference when making a new booking.
