Pastels on 5th Street returns, bringing a street art gallery to downtown Loveland

On Saturday, September 14, approximately 150 artists will be in downtown Loveland creating remarkable chalk art for Pastels on 5.th Street! Pastels on 5 is now in its fourteenth yearth Street is one of Northern Colorado’s most anticipated and popular events. The free, family-friendly festival brings together artists, businesses and vendors to transform Downtown Loveland into a spectacular sidewalk art gallery. Most importantly, Pastels on 5th Street serves as a fundraiser for Alternatives to Violence. This year’s festival takes place on Saturday, September 14th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.th Street between Cleveland and Lincoln Avenue in Loveland.

“Our team is excited to be back this year with all the talented artists, vendors, music and fun that the community loves. Many artists have told me this is their favorite event of the year,” said Event Director Vicky Paul-Bryant. “We are especially excited to welcome Dutch Bros Coffee as our very first major sponsor! Their support over the years has been invaluable and we are so grateful to expand our partnership with them. Their sponsorship will help make a life-changing impact on the many lives that Alternatives to Violence helps in our community.”

A lot is planned for this year’s event:

Chalk art: Pastels on 5th features sidewalk chalk art from about 150 artists. Artists spend hours transforming a spot on the sidewalk into a work of art. Visitors are encouraged to visit the event at different times of the day to see the chalk art come to life.

Live music: The event will feature local stars. This year’s line-up includes:

Angela Perry: 11:00 a.m.

Cerise Sprague & Johnny Argo: 12:15 p.m.

Girl Crush: 1:30 p.m.

Carnival hustle and bustle: 3:00 p.m.

The marketplace: The marketplace area consists of artisans and food vendors. Visitors will find unique, handcrafted goods and delicious offerings from local food trucks.

Art area for children: Children have fun creating their own works of art on the sidewalk using the pastels provided.

Raffle: A raffle will be held at the Alternatives to Violence booth to raise money for the nonprofit. Raffle tickets cost $1 each.

Juried competition: The jury will select their favorite works of art. The first, second and third place winners will receive prizes, and there will also be a young artist prize. The winners will be announced at 4:00 p.m.

The people’s choice: Participants can cast their vote for their favorite artwork by submitting their selections at https://pastelson5th.org/vote/. Voting is open until Sunday, September 22 at 5:00 p.m. Voting costs $1 and all proceeds go to Alternatives to Violence.

On alternatives to violence:

Alternatives to Violence provides shelter, advocacy, education and resources to people affected by domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking. Since 1982, Alternatives to Violence has provided victims with the opportunity to heal both emotionally and physically in a supportive environment. Each year, we provide emergency shelter, safety planning, advocacy, information and referrals to local resources, crisis intervention and, in some cases, longer-term housing to over 1,600 people in Loveland and Southern Larimer County.
