Guillermo del Toro has shared news from a “cursed” hotel in Aberdeen, claiming: “There is something with me in that room.”

Shape of Water – The Secret of Water The director is currently in the Scottish city while he is working on his version of Frankenstein in the Dunecht House.
In the upcoming adaptation of Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel, Oscar Isaac plays the title role, while SaltburnJacob Elordi will play the monster. Other cast members include Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained) and Mia Goth (pearl).
In a series of posts on X/Twitter, del Toro talked about his passion for on-site ghost hunting.
“While in Aberdeen I am staying in an old 19th century hotel. I am in the most haunted room – which was vacated this morning by one of our producers,” he wrote. “Strange electrical and physical occurrences have frightened her so much that she left as soon as possible. Stay tuned – if anything happens I will report.”
He added: “I always stay in the ‘most haunted rooms’, but only once have I experienced anything supernatural – otherwise: nothing. I have high hopes.”
In his latest update, the director said he had to sleep in another room due to the “oppressive atmosphere”, adding that “something” was with him in his previous room.

“All I can say is: nothing has happened yet, but the atmosphere in the room is oppressive and I won’t be spending much more time there. It may be a suggestion, but at this point I’ll keep it, but sleep in a different room – I need 6 hours of sleep to have a good day of shooting.
“I stop there early and late in the day – but there’s something in that room with me… If anything happens, or nothing happens, expect another update or two.”
Filming on Frankenstein, The film, produced by Netflix, began production in February. It is the Mexican director’s first feature film since the 2022 film. Pinocchioand his thirteenth directorial film. He won the Oscar for Best Director in 2017 for Shape of Water – The Secret of Waterwhich was also awarded as best film.
Back in October, del Toro spoke about the star Wars film he once wanted to make and confirmed that he was set to direct a contribution to the series. His contribution, he revealed, was supposed to focus on Jabba The Hutt, but the project ultimately fell through.
“We’ve done a lot of stuff, and then it’s not my property, it’s not my money, and then it’s one of those 30 scripts that go away,” he said. “Sometimes I’m bitter, sometimes I’m not. I always turn to my team and say, ‘Good practice, guys. Good practice. We designed a great world. We designed great stuff. We learned.'”
