Looking back at the relationship between Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s love story was one for the ages – and has just ended for the second time.

After their first meeting in early 2002 on the set of their film Giglithe two got engaged later that same year. They later decided to postpone their wedding as they were attracting a lot of media attention at the time, and in 2004, the two officially split. In the decades that followed, the former couple remained friends, but in April 2021, their Hollywood love story continued as the couple got back together and went Instagram official in July.

The couple were engaged again in 2022 and married in Las Vegas in July of that year before celebrating their wedding with friends and family in Georgia. However, things took a turn in May 2024 when reports of tensions surfaced as the couple were not photographed together for 47 days. Although they have been seen together since then (including on his birthday in August), it was reported in late June that Affleck had moved out of all his belongings from their shared Los Angeles home and the two were spending the summer on opposite coasts.

Lopez filed for divorce in August 2024. Look back at the beginning of their relationship, from filming “Jenny from the Block” to their appearances on the sidelines.

Lopez told Sawyer of their relationship: “We’ve talked about it so many times and how people see him as… one type of person and me as another type of person, and when the two of us get together, we’re like, ‘How did that happen?’ And that we’re probably more similar and come from the same background… the same upbringing, the same family, the same house.”

The premiere was to be their last red carpet appearance as a couple. In September 2003, just one day before their planned wedding date, the couple announced that they were postponing their wedding due to the media frenzy surrounding the event.

In a joint statement, they said: “Due to the excessive media attention surrounding our wedding, we have decided to postpone the date. When we seriously considered hiring three different ‘fake brides’ in three different locations, we realized something was wrong. We felt that the spirit of what should have been the happiest day of our lives could be spoiled. We felt that what should have been a joyous and sacred day could be spoiled for us, our families and our friends.”
