Teenage twin brothers die in fatal wrong-way driving crash on Columbus’ east side that killed woman

According to police, two more people were killed in a wrong-way driving accident on the east side of Columbus early Sunday morning.

Samuel Beyene, 19, and his twin brother Joel Beyene, 19, both died Monday after being hospitalized, according to Columbus police.

Samuel Beyene was the driver of a Dodge Charger that collided head-on with a Nissan Altima driven by 32-year-old Deandra Brigham. Paramedics pronounced Brigham dead at the scene.

A third 21-year-old passenger in the Dodge was also hospitalized. Police have not identified the third passenger since the incident or released an update on his condition.

The crash occurred just after 3:30 a.m. Sunday. Beyene was driving the Dodge at about 70 mph in a 35 mph speed zone without headlights on eastbound on East Livingston Avenue near Burlington Road. The sports car struck Brigham’s eastbound sedan, Columbus police said.

According to the report, it was not known whether the people involved in the crash were wearing seat belts or under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The Columbus Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit is still investigating the accident.
