“The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story” gets premiere date and trailer

Netflix has set September 19 for the premiere of Monster: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menendezthe second part of the true crime anthology series by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan.

The streamer also released a 48-second teaser trailer that begins with the words “On August 20, 1989, Lyle and Erik Menendez murdered their parents” as the two brothers drive up and enter the Menendez’s estate. As they open the door, a single gunshot is heard.

The series tells the story of the two real brothers who were convicted in 1996 of the murder of their parents José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez.

The official logline states: “While the prosecution argued that they wanted to inherit their family’s fortune, the brothers maintained – and continue to maintain to this day, as they serve life sentences without the possibility of parole – that their actions were based on fear of a lifetime of physical, emotional and sexual abuse at the hands of their parents.

Monster: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menendez delves into the historic case that took the world by storm, paving the way for today’s audiences’ fascination with true crime, and in turn asks the audience the question: “Who are the real monsters?”

Javier Bardem plays José Menendez and Nicholas Alexander Chavez plays Lyle Menendez, along with Chloë Sevigny (Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez), Nicholas Alexander Chavez (Lyle Menendez), Cooper Koch (Erik Menendez), Nathan Lane (Dominick Dunne) and Ari Graynor (Leslie Abramson).

Additional cast includes Leslie Grossman (Judalon Smyth), Dallas Roberts (Dr. Jerome Oziel), Paul Adelstein (David Conn), Jason Butler Harner (Det. Les Zoeller), Enrique Murciano (Carlos Baralt), Michael Gladis (Tim Rutten), Drew Powell (Det. Tom Linehan), Charlie Hall (Craig Cignarelli), Gil Ozeri (Dr. William Vicary), Jeff Perry (Peter Hoffman), Tessa Auberjonois (Dr. Laurel Oziel), Tanner Stine (Perry Berman), Larry Clarke (Brian Andersen), Jade Pettyjohn (Jamie Pisarcik), and Marlene Forte (Marta Cano).

Murphy and Brennan serve as executive producers along with Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, David McMillan, Louise Shore, Carl Franklin and Javier Bardem.
