Why does Instagram tell everyone that you edit your photos?

Why does Instagram tell everyone that you edit your photos?

Avid Facetuners and FaceAppers were shocked when they stumbled upon a TikTok clip claiming that Instagram would now expose people who use editing apps on their photos.

A viral clip shared by Vale (@missworldwid33) reached nearly six million views after she claimed Instagram flagged her post as AI-generated.

“Why the hell is Instagram announcing to everyone that I edited my picture?” she said. “Yes, I edited it. I smoothed out my under-eye area. Sorry, I’m tired, sue me. This is going to keep me up at night and I’m going to lose even more sleep.”

Editing is far more commonplace than you might think: the famous editing app Facetune has been downloaded over 730 million times.

It didn’t take long for hundreds of viewers to voice their concerns in the TikToker’s comments.

“I’m about to delete Instagram,” joked one, while another added: “I’m not running to my Insta to see if this is on all my pictures.”

“There will literally not be a single photography page, a brand page that posts product images, etc. that doesn’t have every single image tagged. It’s a useless feature,” one wrote.

Others felt that transparency on social media platforms was necessary. One wrote: “Sorry baby, but this is necessary. The youth have a right to know.”

Does Instagram now mark edited content?

According to Instagram’s terms, content “that has detected industry-standard signals indicating it was generated by AI will be marked with ‘AI Info.'”

Meta does not require users to label images created or modified using AI, but they may be labeled if the system detects that they were created using AI.

Currently, there are not many examples of the average Instagrammer being penalized for subtly edited photos.
