CorSera: Thiaw selected, Kalulu avoided

CorSera: Thiaw selected, Kalulu avoided

Malick Thiaw was unfortunately one of the club’s weakest players in AC Milan’s 2-2 draw with Turin at the start of the new Serie A season. A newspaper has now questioned a decision apparently made by management.

Thiaw was deployed as a centre-back alongside Fikayo Tomori and although he came in with the mission of sowing doubts in Paulo Fonseca’s mind for the rest of the season – especially after the arrival of Strahinja Pavlovic – he failed miserably.

The Italian media did not let Thiaw off scot-free for his performance and the faulty performance was reflected in the reviews he received by the three major newspapers, with La Gazzetta dello Sport calling it a “gallery of horrors”.

Now, Corriere dello Sera (via MilanNews) has given its own take on Thiaw’s opening day disaster, questioning the coaches on their exclusion of Pierre Kalulu from the squad.

The newspaper asks why the Rossoneri are not considering keeping Kalulu instead of loaning him to direct competitors such as Juventus or Atalanta for little money and with no guaranteed return.

The Frenchman was not even included in the squad for the game against Granata and has a far greater number of impressive performances than Thiaw since joining Milan.

Earlier this month there were reports of Newcastle United has concrete interest in Thiaw and even had an offer worth over 30 million euros, but nothing came of it and now they are targeting Marc Guehi.
