Norwegian Cruise Line is introducing a new in-room breakfast experience that uses reusable serving ware made from 50 percent recycled materials.

The cruise line is introducing the new offering on board Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva and plans to expand it to the entire 19-ship fleet by the end of the year.

The new offering is the result of a partnership with Drinique, a sustainable serveware manufacturer based in Phoenix. Guests can now enjoy breakfast in their cabins from bento box-like containers, without the weight and bulk of porcelain plates. The new serveware also eliminates the need for plastic wrap.

The serving dishes are made from Eastman Tritan Renew, a type of plastic that helps keep hard-to-recycle waste out of landfills.

Norwegian eliminated single-use plastic straws in 2018 and single-use plastic water bottles in 2020. Since then, these efforts have eliminated over 77 million plastic straws and over 27 million single-use plastic water bottles.

“As part of our commitment to reduce the use of single-use plastics on board, we are continually looking for ways to introduce new environmentally friendly practices while remaining true to our mission of providing more experiences so our guests can have a more enjoyable vacation with us,” said Mark Kansley, Senior Vice President of Hotel Operations at Norwegian Cruise Line.

“We are excited to continue working with Drinique to introduce these new reusable bento boxes across our fleet and continue to do our part to protect and preserve the environment.”
