Luna’s update confirmed several important new pieces of information for fans of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story And Andor equally. Andor’s second season will explain the origins of Cassian’s partnership with the fan-favorite, reprogrammed Imperial security droid K-2S0 (Alan Tudyk). One keen fan spotted a continuity error in Star Wars: Rogue One and Andor, but others offered different explanations for the blunder.

Disney has confirmed that Season 2 will follow a similar release schedule to Season 1, with 12 episodes released in four parts of three episodes each. But in Season 2, each trio of new episodes will cover a year in Andor’s life. Speaking at D23 about the structure of the upcoming season, Luna said, “This second part of our story will follow Cassian over a four-year period as he grows into the Rebel hero who fulfills his destiny with the ultimate sacrifice in Rogue One… In this season, the stakes are higher, the enemies are more organized, and the clock is ticking.”

The sound of Andor Season 1

In the first season Andor sets a decidedly mature tone that no other Disney+ Star Wars show has attempted to date. The show features a twisted romance between a pair of deeply unlikable but painfully Imperial officers (Syril and Dedra), morally compromised rebel leaders like Luthen, who declares he will “burn my life to create a sunrise I’ll never see,” an Imperial labor camp with electrically charged floors, and other subversive elements fans simply haven’t seen in Star Wars before.

Andor still offers many of the traditional trademarks that star Wars Fans expect: a lovable droid (B2EMO), a fierce group of rebels who want to overthrow the Empire, and even some familiar faces of popular supporting characters like Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly). But Andor is essentially a real dramatic spy thriller set in space. Characters in Andor, on both sides of the galactic conflict, they operate through deception, sabotage and subterfuge. The Empire ruthlessly dominates its subjects, not only through military might, but also through propaganda and constant psychological warfare. The rebels fight dirty, make immoral decisions, wear disguises and move cautiously in public spaces where the suspicious eyes and ears of the Empire might lurk.

In the season one finale, “Rix Road,” Cassian witnesses the true power of collective rebellion in action when Maarva (Genevieve O’Reilly) delivers a posthumous rousing plea in the town square for her people to rise up and fight against their oppressors (via B2EMO’s hologram projection). Her stirring, electrifying speech inspires the humble people of the Outer Rim planet Ferrix to a full-blown uprising. At the end of the episode, Cassian surrenders to Luthen and utters the final line of season one: “Kill me. Or take me in.” Forever changed by the events of the season, Cassian is now fully committed to the cause. He will no longer work alongside the rebels for financial reasons. In season two, Cassian Andor will begin his service to the galactic rebellion.

One Way Out for Season 2?

But with all this information, many questions remain unanswered for fans: How will Andor sSeason two directly prepared the events of Villain One? Who will survive season two? Apart from the characters who Villain One (Cassian, K-2SO, etc.) and familiar faces from the original trilogy (Mon Mothma), every other character in Andor could be dead at the end of the season. Will Cassian finally find his sister Kassa? If the two are reunited, why doesn’t Kassa appear in Villain One? With the return of Krennic, will characters like Galen and Jyn Erso play a role in season two? Will Andor do what Luthen says is necessary in his epic monologue from episode 10, “One Way Out,” to destroy the evil power of the Galactic Empire?

One thing is certain: Tony Gilroy and his colleagues will not return to finish Cassian’s story so they can sell merchandise for Disney, or to prepare future spin-off shows in the Star Wars universe. Fans of Villain One already know what fate Cassian inevitably faces. So how will Andor Season two will continue to immerse fans of the character deeper into a story that they already know the end of? Of course, only time will tell. But for now, it is safe to say that after watching Andor In season two, fans will understand where Cassian Andor came from, how many people he lost on his journey, and how much he has changed as a person when we first see him gun down a rebel informant in the dusty alleys of Jedha, in Villain One. Season two of Andor will complete the portrait of rebel hero Cassian Andor’s journey to self-realization. If the first season is any indication, then the events of the second season will mark Andor’s ultimate sacrifice in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story even more dramatic response than it already had.
