Notre Dame Football Announces Green Jerseys Against Louisville

SOUTH BEND — The green jerseys didn’t quite help Notre Dame’s football team last fall to outlast Ohio State, but they will be back in action for a key rematch on Sept. 28 against Louisville.

Notre Dame, ranked seventh in both major preseason polls, announced via social media that its Irish Wear Green game is already sold out. Irish wrestling sensation Sheamus (born Stephen Farrelly) of the WWE will be in attendance as a special guest at Notre Dame Stadium.

In 2022, Marcus Freeman’s first full season at the helm, Notre Dame wore green in a 24-17 home win over California. Freeman entered this game 0-3 in his head coaching career, and former Irish linebacker Manti Te’o returned as the guest of honor in a game that remained exciting until the final play.

Two weeks after the 17-14 loss to the sixth-place Buckeyes in the final seconds, 10thNo. 1-ranked Notre Dame’s hopes of making the 2023 playoffs were dashed in front of a heated Louisville crowd. The Cardinals, then ranked 25th, pulled away in the second half and won surprisingly 33-20, forcing five turnovers and sacking Sam Hartman five times.

Louisville opens the 2024 season just outside the top 25 in the Associated Press and US LBM polls. Senior defensive end Ashton Gillotte, named a preseason first-team All-American by USA Today Sports, has recorded 11 sacks on the season, including 1.5 sacks against Notre Dame.
