Church in Green Bay gives away 800 backpacks full of school supplies

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – A Green Bay church is helping families who still need school supplies for their children.

The pastor and members of Green Bay First, 1460 Shawano Ave., will distribute 800 backpacks full of relief supplies this weekend.

Registration takes place on the day of the event, August 18th, at 9:00 a.m. The backpacks will be handed out after the service at 10:00 a.m.

In addition, several hundred bags of food will be given away. In addition, several local hairdressers will donate their time and talent to provide children with free haircuts.

This is open to anyone. You do not have to be a member of the church or live in Brown County.

“We want to be a blessing to our community and help them where they need it,” said Pastor Matt Miller. “We feel like there is a lot of need in our city, so we’re just happy to help people in need.”

The event attracts a lot of people and the line usually goes around the entire building, so it is recommended to get there extra early to register.

Your child does not have to be present to receive a backpack.

The church also offers other family activities such as bouncy castles, fairground games, a splash pad and food stalls.
