Sokoto State – A family of seven, comprising father Malam Abubakar, his wife A’ishatu Abubakar and their five children, died after consuming a cassava delicacy in Shagari Local Government Area of ​​Sokoto State.

The tragic incident occurred in Runjin Barmo village in Kajiji district after the victims ate the cassava delicacy, which was suspected to have been contaminated during preparation, on Wednesday, August 7.

According to Vanguard, village head Malam Muhammadu Modi Magajin Runjin Barmo said the victims consumed the cassava flour during dinner.

Barmo said the suspected cassava had been used in about four households and no illnesses had been detected.

He made this statement when the State Health Commissioner, Asabe Balarabe, led a strong delegation to express his condolences to the village.

Balarabe said they were in the village to determine the cause of the incident and to take samples from a teenager who happened to eat the suspected cassava dish, The Punch reports.

He added that the delegation would forward the case to the state government for further action.

Legit.ng reported that a family in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, was plunged into deep mourning following the death of a grandchild.
