The Land Trust community, always up for a challenge, raised more than $275,000.

On July 27, a crowd of 350 people gathered for the Vashon-Maury Island Land Trust’s annual “Party Under the Big Sky.”

Set in the pasture of Matsuda Farm, partygoers dined on delicious food from Gravy, danced to the tunes of St. Ophelia, and hosts Kevin Joy and Martha Enson worked their magic throughout the program.

The Land Trust’s new executive director, Theron Shaw, called on the community to work toward a vision of Vashon as an ecological stronghold in the face of climate change.

Always up for a challenge, the Land Trust community has raised more than $275,000 toward this ambitious goal to strengthen conservation, stewardship and local food systems here on the island.

The event concluded with a Land Trust tradition: cakes of all shapes, sizes and flavors provided by the island’s most talented home bakers and a generous donation from the Vashon Baking Company.
