Actor and wrestler John Cena has officially announced his retirement from WWE.

Cena, who joined WWE in 2001, confirmed that he will leave the wrestling ring in 2025. He shared the surprising news at the WWE Money in the Bank event, which was later released as a video on X/Twitter.

“BREAKING NEWS: John Cena announced at #MITB that he will retire from wrestling in 2025. #ThanksCena,” the caption read.

In his speech, Cena explained why he was at the event in Canada. “Tonight I officially announce my retirement from WWE,” he told the crowd.

“I’ve been doing this for a while. I’ve been with WWE for over two decades,” he continued, praising the support and devotion of Canadian fans. “But why now? Because it’s money in the bank. The ultimate symbol of opportunity.”

The crowd was audibly disappointed when Cena listed his farewell tour. “The 2025 Royal Rumble will be my last. The 2025 Elimination Chamber will be my last,” he explained.

“And I’m here tonight to announce that WrestleMania 2025 in Las Vegas will be the last WrestleMania I attend.”

The wrestler was touched by the crowd’s chants of “Thank you, Cena” and expressed his gratitude. “What an incredible act of kindness,” he replied. “Thank you for letting me play in the house you spent so many years building.”

As he left the ring, the WWE legend reminded his fans and fellow wrestlers that this was their last chance to see him compete before his retirement.

Cena made his acting debut in 2006 when he starred as John Triton in The Marine. Since then, he has appeared in various films alongside other well-known names, including Zac Efron and Vin Diesel.

The actor recently confused his fans when he announced the launch of his OnlyFans account, but the post was actually a marketing stunt for his new film Ricky Stanicky, which hit theaters earlier this year.
